IP Infrastructures
Internet Protocol (IP) is set of rules, for routing and addressing packets of data so that they can travel across networks and safely arrive at the correct destination. These infrastructures form the backbone of modern communication networks, allowing devices to connect, communicate, and exchange information in a standardized and scalable manner. Today’s modern home utilizes and relies on a robust and speedy connection to the World-Wide-Web. Routers, Ethernet Switches, Wireless Access Points (WAP), and LANs and WANs are a few of the requisite IP Devices.
- A Router’s mission is to assign and manage discrete IP addresses for all locally connected IP devices and to provide a connection to the www
- IP addresses can be either DHCP or Static. A Static IP address never changes whereas a DHCP address can change
- DHCP addresses are easier for the end-user, but can be problematic
- Ethernet Switches essentially provide wired connections for IP Devices such as computers, WAPS, PoE Lighting, Cameras, AV, etc.
- Switches can be simple or rather complex. They can also provide power (PoE) to the remotely connected devices
- Switches are generally classified by the number of available ethernet ports, i.e., 4, 5, 8, 12, 16, 24, 48, 72, etc.
- Switches are also classified by their operational capabilities, i.e., Layers 1, Layer 2 & Layer 3
- WAPS or Wireless Access Points extend the Wi-Fi signal coverage within a property.
- LAN or Local Area Network is your private Network
- WAN refers to Wide Area Network and functions outside of your personal property. LANS and WANS do communicate via the aforementioned IP Protocols
IP infrastructures have revolutionized the way we communicate and share information. They enable seamless connectivity, efficient data transmission, and the integration of various devices and services. From basic home networks to complex enterprise environments, IP infrastructures play a vital role in connecting the world and powering the digital age.
