Crestron Electronics recently announced the impending release date for the new Crestron Home or OS3 operating system. The final version is slated to be released on Sept 4, 2019, which is just a few short weeks away.
What is Crestron Home:
Crestron Home is a product and software platform that works symbiotically to deliver Smart Home Automation Systems with a minimum of programming required. As a matter of fact, no laptops or computers are required and the setup is fully deployed using an iPad.
Sound Plus Wood, Inc. is included among a list of initial Beta-Testers for this product. Our initial overview suggests that it has reasonably achieved its stated goals for the simplicity of deployment. To be clear, I was able to deploy the following test system with no programming required and at the end of the day, it worked flawlessly. That was not only a welcome change but it saved hundreds of man-hours of tedious programming.
My test system was comprised of the following AV Electronics:
- LG OLED TV Display
- Denon AVR-X8500H Receiver
- Apple 4K TV (4th Gen)
- Amazon Fire TV (4K)
- Kaleidescape Movie and Music Server
- iPhone, iPad, X-Panel & Crestron TSR-310 Remote control (above)
Do note that as a Beta-Tester, we are provided pre-release software so that we can assist with the platform's development. Crestron is working at a feverish pace to rollout new Certified Product Drivers for all manner of AV Electronics. In fact, they release over 100 new control drivers every week. A control Driver is required to talk to each and every Device and may take the form of a CEC, IP, RS-232 or IR Driver. IP and RS-232 drivers provide bi-directional communications whereas an IR Driver only sends out Device commands and is considered to be a One-Way Driver.
Clearly, we are very excited about this new platform and for any who are contemplating deploying any manner of Smart Home Technolgy, you should definitely look into this new product offering by Crestron.
